Hey guys,
At Plum Creek Community Church this weekend, Pastor Doug delivered a message on "Applied Faith". In other words, taking what we learn on Sundays (and on Thursdays) and applying it to our everyday lives. It inspired me to really dive into the book of James a little deeper.
Something that struck me was how the words we speak can be so important and perhaps even dangerous. James 1:19-20 My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to LISTEN, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Your anger can never make things right in God's sight.
This week I am going to focus my words on encouragement and be slower to 'React' and more careful to "Respond'. I am also going to be try to be more mindful and aware of the actual words I speak as it reflects who I am and what I stand for.
Have an awesome week!

Doug's words couldn't have come at a better time for me.
1. At home...with a 3 year old that is starting to explore her world and make decisions for herself...her decisions sometimes do not go along with my wife and I. So being mature..I need to remain positive under these stressful situations.
Also, my wife and I have had a few disagreements and again..doing the "right" thing and being mature is the thing to do. The words in James hit me hard.
2. Work. As a supervisor at the FD there is ALWAYS someone watching my every move and actions and words. I agree with what Charles is going to do and try and do the same. I'm going to Listen more, speak less and see how much more of a leader I can be at work.
3. Treating anyone that I come in contact with...being positive and respectful of others opinions and decisions is going to be constent work....but I'm up for the challenge.
I'm ready to work at this..I hope those that are reading this are considering how you can improve...
thanks for reading.
Matt
