This week we began by talking about the first word of this verse, “Surely”. David is communicating his sense of confidence in the Good Shepherd. Why is it important for us to have this same confidence in our relationships with God? Read James 1:17 and talk about how this relates to the confidence we can have in God.

2. We talked about several reasons that we can, “face our future with confidence”. These three things were; because God’s GOODNESS & MERCY are working in me, because God PURSUES me with PERSISTENCE & because HEAVEN is WAITING for me. Which one of these three stood out most in your mind? Why do each of these give you confidence as you face your future?

3. Read Romans 8:28 and talk about this promise. Who is the promise for? How does this relate to our lives and how God’s goodness is “following” us?

4. Can you share an example of a time in your life when you were able to experience how God turns all things together for the good?

5. Out of the stories that you know from scripture which one is your favorite example of God’s pursuit? How do you feel about God’s persistent pursuit of you?

6. The last thing Doug talked about this week is our certainty that if we are a follower of Christ heaven is waiting for us. Review: Eccles. 3:11, 2 Cor. 5:1, 2 Cor. 5:6-8, 1 Peter 1:4-6 & Rev. 21:4. After reading these verses what sticks out most in your mind about heaven?

7. At the end of the message Doug said these things,
“Be careful not to act like you are home. Don’t treat this world like it is home. It isn’t! The greatest danger is not to feel far from home when you are, but to feel right at home when you are not. You're not ready to live until you're ready to die. You don't know how to live until you're ready to die. Only a fool would go all through life, totally unprepared for something that everybody knows is inevitable.”

-What thoughts do you have about these statements?

8. Re-read Psalm 23.
-What stands out most in your mind and heart from our time in this great psalm?

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Questions for Week of 03/09/2008

Ps. 23:5
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil.
My cup overflows."

1. Just like the sheep there are plenty of challenges in life that literally “bug” us. This week’s message dealt with how we face these challenges. What are a couple of things in your life that have become problems that have “bugged” you the most?

2. We talked about several things that we should not do when life presents these types of challenges. They were: don’t IGNORE it, don't RUN from it, don’t HIDE your hurt, don’t WORRY about it & finally don’t RESENT it. In your life, which of these have you found to be your most common response to life’s challenges? Why do you think this is the case?

3. We also talked about how David’s psalm gives us a prescription for dealing with these challenges. This prescription included: letting Jesus SETTLE the SCORE, letting Jesus SOOTH my IRATATIONS and finally, letting Jesus SATISFY my NEEDS.

-Which of these three was the most important for you to hear? Why?
-Which of these three is the hardest/easiest for you to implement in your life? Why?

4. Do you have an example of a time in your life when you were able to experience God do one of these things? If so, and you feel willing to share, talk about this experience and what you learned about your Shepherd during this time.

5. We wrapped up the message talking about how, “our cup is overflowing”. There is some significant symbolism that David was familiar with regarding an “overflowing cup”. What did you take away from this? Doug finished our time together talking about the different cups that we have that are overflowing. (cups of grace, hope, love & joy). There are verses in scripture that talk about how we have each of these things in an “overflowing fashion”. How did this speak to your heart? What can you do in your life to keep the perspective of the “overflowing provisions” of our God?

6. The last thing Doug said this week was this, “One thing is certain. When the final storm comes and you are safe in your Father’s house, you won’t regret what God didn’t give, you’ll be stunned at what He did give!” What does this mean and how can you keep this kind of focus?

Have a great week & remember…

The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Journey Group’s Discussion Questions For The Week Of 3-2-08

Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

1. What did you think about the fact that the, “valley of the shadow of death” is a real place?

2. The metaphor of the “valley” is very real. We talked about some of the other valleys mentioned in scripture: Joshua talks about the Valley of Calamity, Psalm 84 talks about the Valley of Weeping, Hosea talks about the Valley of Trouble. The most accurate translation for the, “valley of the shadow of death” is the “valley of deep darkness”. What valleys have you experienced in your life?

3. Doug shared 5 things about valleys. Valleys are INEVITABLE, UNPREDICTABLE, IMPARTIAL, TEMPORARY and PURPOSEFUL. Which of these 5 truths stood out most to you and why?

4. Doug also shared 3 things to do when you are going through a “valley time” in your life. They were; REFUSE to be DISCOURAGED, REMEMBER that God is WITH me, and finally, rely on God’s PROTECTION & GUIDANCE. Which of these 3 is the most important for you to remind yourself of? Why?

5. We also talked about how we can always learn about God during life’s valley times. What are some things you have personally learned about God during these times in your life?

6. Often times the hardest part of the “valley experiences” in our lives comes from feeling alone and isolated.
-Read Psalm 139:7-12 and discuss how these verses relate to these times in our lives.

-Why do you think that those that have “walked through the valley” are usually the best at helping others go through the tough times in life?

-Do you typically look for help during the “valley experiences” in your life? Why do you think this is the case?

-Are you willing to walk with someone else through the “valley times”? How can we do a better job of doing this?

DIscussion Questions for Week of Feb 24th

Soul Care 101 Part 2 Questions:

1. For the last two weeks Doug has been asking what we have done to care for our souls. Were you able to be more intentional about your “soul care” this week? If so what did you do?

2. This week we looked at what it looks like to follow God’s plan for spiritual nourishment. If sheep aren’t led to “healthy” water they will look to quench their thirst anywhere they can. What are some “unhealthy” places that we can find ourselves looking for “nourishment”?

Read these verses: Matt. 5:6, John 7:37, John 6:35 & Rev. 22:17. What do they tell us about where we can find “true nourishment”?

3. In Ps. 42:11, David says, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Doug shared about what the term “cast” means to a shepherd.

Have you ever been in a place where you had a “downcast” soul?

We learned how one of the shepherd’s jobs is to watch for sheep that are in this “cast” state. What are your thoughts about the Great Shepherd caring for us when we are “downcast”?

4. Re-read Psalm 23:2-3 and reflect on the Great Shepherd’s responsibility to lead and our responsibility to follow. How are you doing following His lead in your life?

5. We concluded this week looking at what it means to pursue God’s path for my life. We talked about 3 ways the shepherd guides his sheep.
-He guides us to health.
-He gently guides those that stray.
-He lovingly guides those that are stubborn.

Have you experienced the Great Shepherd guiding you in these ways? How?

Read Psalm 119:67-68. Talk about how this verse applies to your life.

Discussion Questions for week of Feb 18

1- This week we started off our message talking about the story of the sheep named Shrek. The analogy was that if we aren't careful we can neglect "care for our souls". Why do you think that taking care of ourselves spiritually tends to get pushed to the "back burner" in our lives?
2- Doug asked us the question, "What have you done this week to care for your soul?". How did you answer that question?
3- Re-read the Mike Yaconelli quote and share your thoughts about his brutal honesty concerning his spiritual life...
“I knew what it meant to believe in Jesus, I didn’t know what it meant to be with Jesus. I knew how to talk with Jesus, I didn’t know how to sit still long enough to let Jesus talk to me. I found it easy to do the work of God, but I had no idea how to let God work in me. I understood soul-saving, but I was clueless about soul making. I knew how to be busy, but I didn’t know how to be still. I could talk about God; I just couldn’t listen to God. I felt comfortable with God’s people, but I felt uncomfortable alone with God. I was acquainted with the God ‘out-there’, but I was a complete stranger to the God ‘in-here’. I could meet God anywhere…except in my heart, in my soul, in my being.”
4- Doug talked about our need to SLOW DOWN. In his message he shared a prescription to R.E.L.A.X. Review each of these points and the verses together and share your thoughts.

1. REALIZE MY WORTH (James 1:18)
2. ENJOY WHAT I ALREADY HAVE (Ecc. 3:13)
3. LIMIT MY LABOR (Ex. 20:8-11)
4. ADJUST MY VALUES (Mark 8:36)
5. EXCHANGE MY PRESSURE FOR GOD'S PEACE (Isa. 26:3 & Eph. 2:8)

4- What are some things that you can intentionally do this week to prepare for Doug asking again this Sunday, "What I have done to care for my soul"?

Discussion Questions for week of Feb 10

Discussion Questions
“God’s Cure for Worry”
Sunday, February 10, 2008

1. Why do people tend to worry? What are some of your “pet” worries?

2. Gary said that worry is "unhelpful, unreasonable and unhealthy". How have you seen this lived out in people you know? Yourself?

3. The 3 Cures for Worry Gary shared on Sunday were 1) Believe my Shepherd will take care of me, 2) Talk to my Shepherd about everything and 3) Live one day at time. Why can “The Cure” bring hope to the one burdened by worry?

4. Which of these three “cures” is easiest for you to do? Hardest? Why?

5. Are some areas of “worry” easier/harder to give to the Lord? Do you sometimes “cast” your worries like you cast in fishing…you keep reeling them back in? Why?

6. Spend some time on each of these verses from the sermon notes (Psa. 23:1, John 16:33, Php. 4:19, Php. 4:6-7 and I Pet. 5:7). Ask: What does my Shepherd want me to know about His heart? How do my words, thoughts and actions demonstrate I believe Him?

7. Read Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:25-34. How does your heart respond to His words? Why does Jesus speak these words? What does Jesus want His followers to know?

8. Now that I know these things about worry and God’s cure for it, how will my life be different?

Discussion Questions for week of Feb 3

Hey Guys,
Here are the questions for this week...
1- What are some of your memories surrounding the 23rd Psalm?
2 - Doug's first point this week was that we need to know who is
LORD. What are your thoughts about David's use of the name Yahweh?
What did you learn about this Hebrew word that God used when asked what His name was? (Ex. 3:13-15)
3 - Doug also mentioned the Bob Dylan song, "You've Got To Serve Somebody". The reality is that we all have the tendencies to allow other things besides God to become "lords" in our lives. What do you find are the things that most easily become "lords" in your life?
4 - David uses the metaphor of a sheep and shepherd to describe our relationship with God. How accurate do you feel this is in your life?
5 - What stuck out in your mind the most concerning God's "shepherding" qualities?
6 - Read Ephesians 1:13-14. If Shepherds "mark" their sheep so that others will know they belong to a certain shepherd, what does God's mark look like on your life? Do you think that people who observe your life see the mark of God? Why? / Why Not? How?
7 - Can you like David say, "The LORD is my Shepherd"?
8 - What can you do to help that statement be more of a reality in your life?

Discussion Questions - Week of Jan 27

1) This week Doug talked about the "NPS Score" that businesses use to determine their clientele's passion and loyalty. Doug then asked us to think about this question based on your own personal relationship with God. "Would you recommend God to a friend?"
Do you? Why?

2) Go back and read Gen 3:7-12:
At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they strung fig leaves together around their hips to cover themselves. 8 Toward evening they heard the Lord God walking about in the garden, so they hid themselves among the trees. 9 The Lord God called to Adam, "Where are you?" 10 He replied, "I heard you, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked." 11 "Who told you that you were naked?" the Lord God asked. "Have you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?" 12 "Yes," Adam admitted, "but it was the woman you gave me who brought me the fruit, and I ate it."
The consequences of sin are real. Can you see evidenced in this passage the consequences of broken connectedness to God, ourselves & each other? Have you seen similar consequences your own life as well?

3) Of the three areas that we discussed this weekend; connecting to God, connecting to who I am in Christ & connecting to others, which is the biggest challenge for you? Why do you think this is the case?

4) What steps do you need to take to be proactive in re-connecting in these areas?

5) We have spent the last 4 weeks looking at what it takes to have an E.P.I.C. Faith. The definition of Epic is, "Extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope." The topics for each week were; Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich & Connected. As you look back over the series we have just completed what stands out in your mind the most? Would you describe your personal relationship with God as EPIC? What are some practical things that you can do in your life to continue moving in the direction of an EPIC Faith.

6) As a group in preparation for our new series that starts next week. Read Psalm 23.

SMALL GROUPS

SMALL GROUPS HAVE FORMED!

Tuesday at 8:30 am in Castle Rock - Leader: Jeff Arlotti
> Space Available jarlotti@yahoo.com
Wednesday 11:45 Lunch in Castle Rock - Leader: Charles Oster
> Filled
Thursday Early Morning - South Denver - Leader: Mike Kelly
> Space Available mkelly007@comcast.net
Thursday Early Morning in Castle Rock - Leader: Brent Gravlee
> Space Available bgavlee@clifbar.com
S. I am hoping you all can make the Spaghetti dinner on Friday. It is from 4-8. We are going to go from 4-5 since Cole has a B-ball game and we have another engagement after the game.

We still need some stuff to donate for the silent auction. Anything will help - PlayStation's, gift certificates, etc.

Please keep praying!

--------------
Good morning,I'm not sure when I wrote you last, so I'll do a quick update. On Dec 14th D had a tumor removed from his right lung ( about a golf ball size). It was sent away for drug resistance testing. There are three chemo drugs that showed a 20 o/o chance of effecting the cancer. Two of these drugs were used the first time D was in chemo and if you remember made him deathly sick, Dr. Parra said he would cut the dosage and mix it with the third drug. Darrin's cancer grew through the first chemo drugs, but his cancer is changing, trying to stay alive. D's chemo treatment is a 3 week treatment. Week one mon-fri, week two monday, week 3 monday, week 4 rest. There will be only 2 treatments which takes us to March, there will be a PET scan then to see if the chemo is effective, D's body is not nearly as strong as it was in the beginning so please pray. Also D has not been back to work since his Dec surg, he is on oxygen through the night and at times throughout the day. We are still believing for a miracle. Short term disability has now started and that will be for three months then long term disability, Social security stuff is in the works but usually takes 5 months to get that going, they are trying to rush it since D has been labeled terminal. as weird as it may sound the financial does not scare us, God has proven that He will take care of us, and for all of you how have been His hands, feet and mouth we thank you. I'll keep you updated. As for Katee, she started # 11 yesterday (21rst) and will have chemo today and wed, She has chemo monday and tues and those nights she is also hooked to an IV pump that pumps chemo through the night, on Wed she will have chemo but no night pump. She is so thankful she is almost done. We all are. As for Ami and I we are trying to help where we can but find ourselves lost in what to do most of the time. The senior center is again including us in their spaghetti feed, this friday, they are keeping all the money from the food but there will be a silent auction with alot of wonderful things people have donated. The spaghetti dinner is at the event center here in castle rock ( in one of the side buildings, we just look for the cars and lights) I'll write more when I have more.
Kim Clock
197 GordonPlace
Castle Rock, CO 80104

DIscussion questions for week of Jan 20

Hey guys,

Below are some questions to discuss when you get together with your JourneyMEN group this week. Please let me know when and where your group is meeting so we can inform and connect new guys with your group...

Have an awesome week!

------------------

1. ) What were your first thoughts when Doug said that an “EPIC Faith” needs to be "image-rich"?

2.) What are your thoughts about the A.W. Tozer quote: “The most important fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be.”?

3.) John 1:14 “So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.”

4.) What are your thoughts about the “Word becoming flesh”? Why is it so important for us to study the life of Jesus and the images that were part of His life and His teachings?

5.) Of the 7 images that Doug talked about this weekend which one sticks out in your mind & heart the most?

6.) What other images from Jesus’ life are significant to you?

7.) Doug finished his message by challenging us to think of Monday as “Game Day”. What do you think about this challenge?

8.) Finally, Doug also asked us to evaluate what image others are seeing in our lives. LifeThis past weekend we were called to be Participatory in our faith.
Matthew 4:19“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus began His public ministry with a simple invitation…“Come, follow me,” Arguably the Disciples who heard this call are the ones that Participated at the highest level! The people whose lives were really impacted and changed by God were the ones that understood the EPIC kind of life.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Why is it important to God that we participate?
Why is it important to the Church and each other that we participate?
In what ways can I Participate in the community and in the church in order for Jesus to accomplish his mission in the world?
As men, why do we sometimes find it hard to take the step to participate? How can we overcome that?
How can participating keep us passionate about our enthusiasm for God?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?Starting this week, how will you get involved? What will your involvement and participation look like in JourneyMEN in 2008?

CHANGING YOUR MIND Matthew 28:18-20
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. As a result, for many people the Christian faith becomes a rule-based religion. Instead, the Scriptures reveal that Jesus' initial invitation is to follow him. He invites us to follow him until we begin believing that he is indeed who he says he is. This belief that God loves us and has the best in store for us, then, becomes the reason we obey.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What crazy/outrageous acts have you done to express your love for another person?
Which step has been the hardest for you to take: following, believing, or obeying? Why?
Of all the Christian commandments that you have heard, which ones have been the hardest for you to apply in your life?
Read Matthew 7:24-28. What does it mean to have a foundation built on rock? What does it mean to have a foundation built on sand?
When you read this passage, do you hear the parable as a source of comfort, as a warning sign, as an explanation of why life seems out-of-sync, or as some combination of all three?
At the end of the day, it comes down to answering the question: "Who are you going to trust?" Do you trust that Jesus really knows what is best for us, or do you prefer to do things your own way?

THINK ABOUT IT
Has there ever been a time when you regretted obeying Jesus? Has there ever been a time when you regretted disobeying Jesus?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
We can attend church and experience great music and informative sermons, but these things are not life changing. Obedience to Christ makes all the practical difference in the outcome of our lives. What areas of your life do you need to surrender in obedience to Christ?

CHANGING YOUR MIND
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

NO MEETING THIS THURSDAY

DUE TO SCHEDULING CONFLICT WITH OUR FACILITY WE ARE NOT MEETING THIS THURSDAY.

WE ARE TRYING FOR NEXT THURSDAY.

CO

Thursday's Topic

Simple Part II - BELIEVE

INTRODUCTION

Jesus' initial invitation to his disciples was a simple one: Follow me. He invited them to watch and listen to his interactions with his heavenly Father and with others. In time, however, those who followed Jesus began to discover God's character through Jesus Christ. And in that discovery they found themselves drawn to take a second simple step: Believe. DISCUSSION

QUESTIONS

1.) Think about all the advertisements you get for "free offers". Have you ever actually received anything for "free"? What hidden catches/costs have accompanied the free offers you've pursued?
2.) Read Romans 3:21-26. In your words, define "righteousness" (v.22)? What comes to mind about the word "glory" (v.23)?
3.) Do you agree that nobody is perfect? How does that shape your idea of what it means to have fallen short of God's standard?
4.) What attempts have you made in your life to reach God's standard of living? Have those attempts assured you of God's recognition or are you still trying to earn God's favor?
5.) What is unique about God's invitation to be in relationship with Him that is different from other types of invitations that we receive?
6.) Attaining a right standing with God is available from God through Christ to all who believe in Jesus - the person. Do you believe who Jesus says he is and what he has done for you?

THINK ABOUT IT
When this message captivates the human heart it impacts our behavior. Forgiven people find it easier to forgive. Loved people find it easier to love. Accepted people find it easier to accept. Sinners who've been forgiven of sin find it easier to abandon their sin.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Have you ever said yes to God and accepted his gift of a right standing with him? Consider praying a prayer that transfers your trust out of your hands and places it into Christ's hands. And if you've already done so, is there anyone in your life with whom you can share this message?

CHANGING YOUR MIND
There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24

Simple Part 1 - FOLLOW

FOLLOW {ANDY STANLEY}

INTRODUCTION:
There is a common misconception that the church is a gathering place for saintly, perfect people. Moreover, some think that being a Christian means observing a set of rules or commandments. The reality is that the Christian life is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. And at the heart of that relationship is an invitation that Jesus extends to people from all experiences of life: "Follow me."

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1.) Read Matthew 9:9-13. What did the general public think of tax collectors like Matthew?
2.) How have certain experiences in your life prevented you from developing relationships with other people? Can you imagine anything that might disqualify you from having a relationship with God?
3.) n this passage, Jesus seems to be comfortable in the company of tax collectors and sinners, while the Pharisees express considerable outrage. What standards did Jesus have for choosing his relationships?
4.) What does it mean to be "healthy" and "sick" as described in verse 12? Would you describe yourself as healthy or sick?
5.) How does following Jesus make you less critical and more gracious towards others?
6.) Are you willing to follow Jesus? What does it look like to follow Jesus in your life?

THINK ABOUT IT:

Jesus extends his invitation to people who know something is wrong but aren't sure what to do about it. He invites people who know they are not all they ought to be. He didn't ask Matthew to clean up his act before following him; and Jesus doesn't ask that of us. In time, within the context of his relationship with Jesus, Matthew would experience incredible life transformation. But Jesus' initial request and his request from there on out is simply, "Follow me." Will you follow Jesus Christ?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Begin tomorrow morning with this prayer, "Lord, today I want to follow you."

CHANGING YOUR MIND:

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9

Are you Available?

INTRODUCTION
What kind of person does God use? As you read through the Bible it becomes clear that God doesn't usually use the smartest or the most sophisticated person. He doesn't often use someone who has all the answers or who knows what he is doing. In fact, when I read the Bible and see the people God used I can’t help help but think, how does God get anything done? But as we examine the story of Moses it will become clear the one characteristic that God does use, and how He can leverage this quality in you. When you think about the people God used, they have one very important commonality with us…they raised their hand one day and said, “I’m available.” I’m not necessarily capable, trained or sure things are going to go well, but if there is a gap, put me in coach as long as you are coming with me.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Read Exodus 3:1-11. Why do people tend to think that God can't use them? What are the excuses they give for not making themselves available?

God says He has seen the plight of his people. Well, it’s been 400 years. God is always late from our perspective and on time from his. (Like how our kids think we are late all the time.) Moses must be thinking, this is very encouraging, why are you telling me this? What does this have to do with me? Then God says GO. “Wait God, let’s go back to verse 8. I heard you tell me you were going to go, which is awesome, so I think you should go.”

2. Read Exodus 3:12-14. What does God give to those who make themselves available (i.e. "I will be with you," v. 12)?

3. When have you felt God use you?

4. How have you felt God use this COMMUNITY in your life? How have you seen God use this COMMUNITY in the lives of others?

5. What does it take (time, talents and resources) to make these aspects of COMMUNITY happen?

6. In what volunteer capacity do you plan to make yourself available for God to use this coming year?

THINK ABOUT IT

What are the consequences of saying no…not being available? Think about all that Moses would have missed out on?

Imagine a year from now…what impact will we have made on our community or church? What things are you imagining? What will it take to make this happen? Make a list of the results that you expect to see a year from now in both your life and in the lives of others. How will things be different?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Seriously consider your level of involvement and investment into the community. If you are too busy to be involved, you’re too busy. You have to be available!

CHANGING YOUR MIND

And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain. " Exodus 3:12

No Meeting this Week!

Due to a scheduling conflict with the Grange, JourneyMen will not be meeting this Thursday and will reconvene next Thursday, October 11.

KING OF THE HILL – Pause Part IV – JourneyMEN 09-20-2007

INTRODUCTION
Somewhere along the way you will be presented with an opportunity to jump ahead, to take a shortcut, to move closer to that goal you are chasing. And the only catch is that you will have to temporarily abandon your values. So what will you do? It turns out that Jesus was made just such an offer in His third temptation. Examining His response will prepare you for your moment of truth.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1.) Name some people in our culture who have taken unethical shortcuts in order to get what they wanted quicker. What were the results of their decisions?
2.) Read Matthew 4:8-9. What is it about shortcuts that make them so tempting that the devil though he could tempt Jesus with a shortcut?
3.) Read Deuteronomy 6:10-13. What does your response to the temptation to take shortcuts say about in whom you put your trust?
4.) Read Matthew 4:10-11. What did Jesus gain when he chose unbroken fellowship with the Father over instant authority over the kingdoms of the earth (cf. Matthew 28:18)?
5.) What do you stand to lose when you take a shortcut?
6.) Have you ever been faced with an opportunity to jump ahead, but it required you to temporarily abandon your values? What was your response? What were the results?
7.) What do you currently want to get so badly that you are set up to temporarily turn your back on God?
8.) In this area, how can you remind yourself to choose what is important over what is immediate?

THINK ABOUT IT
When you take a shortcut you miss out on an opportunity to experience God?s intervention on your behalf. In the area where you could see yourself being tempted to take a shortcut, how could God intervene to give you the results you want, without compromising your intimacy with Him? WHAT WILL YOU DO?When faced with the temptation to take a shortcut commit to pause...and say the following, "Temptation, you're not going to steal my future. You're not going to steal my family. You're not going to steal my faith."

CHANGING YOUR MIND
Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" Matthew 4:10

Darrin Clock Fund

Hope everyone had a great week! I wanted to give you an update on Darrin Clock…
I have been in regular contact with him regarding his and his daughter's battle with Cancer. As you know, Katee's surgery went well and now she is undergoing Chemotherapy treatment along with Darrin.

It is hard to imagine having to fight your own terminal illness, but having it compounded by news that your daughter has cancer as well…it is almost unimaginable. We are however encouraged to hear news of progress in both of their treatments. Just weeks ago, Doctors gave Darrin little chance of survival past 6 months, but Darrin never stopped hoping. He notified me today that there was even a small shrinkage of the cancer when he visited his Oncologist yesterday. The Doctors are absolutely baffled! Praise the Lord and the glory be to Him!
So many of you have asked what can be done to help. Frankly, there is a financial need. With ongoing medical treatment there is mounting medical bills and a great deal of missed work. Even the most prepared person can find themselves in a situation where they need help financially because of circumstances way beyond their control. This is one of those times…
Imagine for a moment that you need to get several (highly priced) prescriptions filled per week. Now multiply it by two. Now factor in the fact that you need to miss one day per week because of Chemotherapy. This doesn't include the time you may miss because you feel so sick you can't work the following day. Bottom line is; it compounds and it is expensive.

Darrin has never asked for money, but I know it is rapidly becoming a concern. If you are able to help, I am asking for your support on Darrin's behalf. As Doug has said, we need to pray like it was us that were sick and I think we need to give that way as well. If it is in your heart to help, on Sunday, please put in the offering under benevolence "Darrin Clock" in addition to your regular tithe/offering and we will make sure it gets directly to him. There is a fund that has been established at Castle Rock Bank with full disclosure for contributors. It is important to Darrin that people can see where the money is going.
Thanks fellas! Talk to you soon!

Charles

Ps - if you would like to know more of the Clock family, please visit: www.darrinsday.com

Pause Part III - Proving Ground

JourneyMEN September 6, 2007

PAUSE Part III – Proving Ground

INTRODUCTION
Every day people fall into the temptation of presuming on God. You see it in the young couple that spends irresponsibly and then asks God to bail them out financially for example. But what's wrong with that? Hasn't God promised to take care of us? In this session we'll discuss the second of Jesus' three temptations in the desert and what it teaches us about presuming on God. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
When in your life have you had an idea, launched that idea, and then expected God to bail you out? What were the results?
Read Matthew 4:5-6. What was behind the devil's request? Why would it have been a sin for Jesus to throw himself down from the top of the temple?
Read Psalm 91:11-12. In these verses God promised to protect His Messiah. How can a promise be turned into presumption?
Read Exodus 17:1-7, the story of Israel at Massah referenced in Deut 6:16. How did the Israelites put God to the test? How did they try to manipulate God?
Read Deuteronomy 6:16. When do you find yourself breaking this prohibition by presuming on God?
Read Matthew 4:7. What do we learn from Jesus' response?
When do you find yourself trying to get God to adopt your agenda?
What do you miss out on when you continue to try and manipulate God?
How can you begin to stop trying to manipulate God and start cooperating with Him?
THINK ABOUT IT
This week evaluate your prayers, your excuses, your explanations, your decisions, through the lens of Are you cooperating with God, or are you trying to manipulate Him? Is your attitude more like "If I jump, He'll catch me," or "I'm here to cooperate, not manipulate"?
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
At the beginning of each day this week, pause...and say Matthew 4:7 to yourself. Surrender to God's will and choose to cooperate, not manipulate. He said, "yes, that's a great idea". So, I did. It takes way longer than it should buying the doughnuts (which by the way - I'm not allowed to even eat doughnuts - these are for my boys). Now I am running behind schedule (which by the way - I HATE). Driving to Rock Park and a Castle Rock Police Officer whips around and gets right behind me. "Oh crap", I am thinking. I am also thinking, "If you are going to pull me over, do it now so the guys don't see me." The squad car keeps following. I start thinking, "Heck, maybe I am going to get lucky".

As soon as I hit my blinker, BAM, the 'lights of the law' start circling. Then another friend of mine comes over, who happens to also be in Law Enforcement and tells the officer to 'take me in'. It never ceases to AMAZE me the hunger the men of our community have to come together to make themselves and one another better - Praise God!

We have a God who not only invited us to call Him Creator, but Heavenly Father. While we were at the 'summit', it was easy to see that we have an awesome God that is an incredible creator. We could see practically more than a hundred miles in every direction. The beauty and majesty of His creation is breathtaking. But what makes me even more at awe is that God not only invited us to call Him The Creator, but Heavenly Father. He wants a personal relationship with us - now that is exciting!

This really struck me as I was talking to the other JounneyMEN. I thought to myself, "It's all about relationships".

I could be climbing this rock myself, and it may be okay. But what if I slip? I don't think I could have or would have wanted to go any higher if Matt weren't standing in the spot that was a little scary - but I trusted him and I kept moving ahead...

Matt is a Fire Fighter and I knew that I could trust him. He stood at the scariest place on the climb and encouraged everyone as they passed this area - reassuring everyone and telling them exactly where to step. It gave me comfort that he was standing there and it help alleviate my fears (and the fears I had for the others in the group). It gave me confidence and security knowing that he was standing there.

Isn't this similar to our faith? When it is strong, we move - we climb with confidence! Just knowing He is there, we are able to trust and feel more safe. As a leader, you feel more confident because He is there at the scary places on the 'mountain' for your people. God is the ultimate Fire Fighter! He is the ultimate encourager. On the other side, what if our faith is weak? We hesitate, we become paralyzed with fear and uncertainly. God does NOT want this for us!

Wow! God wants me to call Him Father. He wants relationship just as He built us for relationship with one another. He is there for me. Helping me along the climb. Now that is amazing!

On top of The Rock, we prayed (together) for the community - specifically the men, the families, the businesses and all of the churches. We focused outward, symbolically and vowed to remember that we will continue to look outward as this is what God told us to do.

We concluded by joining hands and reciting the prayer Jesus taught his disciples, The Lord's Prayer before descending down again.

What a way to start the morning. Knowing that the hills I climb, I don't have to climb alone. Our Heavenly Father is there and so are the JourneyMEN...

Tomorrow (Thursday) we will be hiking Castle Rock. Jesus too was tempted to take things in His own hands and His response reveals a lot about what is really at stake when we are tempted to act independently of God.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS – Consider; Marriage (family), Health, Finances, Career, Faith
Has there been something that you waited for a long time? How did it feel to have to wait?
Read Matthew 4:1-4. What was behind the devil's request? Why would it have been a sin for Jesus to turn the rocks into bread?
Read Deuteronomy 8:1-3. What did God intend to teach the Israelites when He provided manna for them in the wilderness?
When in your life have you met a legitimate need in an improper way? What were the results?
Why is it difficult to wait on God to provide, instead of taking things into your own hands?
Have you ever had a need that you were tempted to take into your own hands, but instead you chose to wait on God? How did God provide?
In what area of your life do you face the most temptation to meet a legitimate need in an irresponsible way?
Read Deuteronomy 8:10-18. Why is it more tempting to act independently of God when times are good? How can you continue to remind yourself of your dependence on God?

THINK ABOUT IT
Jesus met his temptation by quoting Deuteronomy 6:3. Choose a verse you can memorize this week that is specific to your temptation.WHAT WILL YOU DO?When you are tempted this week to meet a legitimate need in an irresponsible way, pause...and say Deuteronomy 6:3 to yourself, or a verse specific to your temptation.
CHANGING YOUR MIND
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4

E-mail from Kim Clock

This was an email i recieved from Kim this morning.
Just got off the phone with Darrin - he is great spirits right now. What is it that leads you to keep making the same poor choices? Could it be that the reason you find temptation so, well, tempting is that you've never paused to think about what is at stake? In this session we will discuss what really hangs in the balance when you are faced with temptation.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Read Matthew 3:16-4:1. What was at stake when Jesus was tempted?

1.) Why do we tend to minimize what is at stake when we are tempted?
2.) Share an example of a time in your life when your response to temptation impacted your future?
3.) How have you seen an individuals poor choices impact the lives of others?
4.) How does temptation affect your faith?
5.) How does it help to keep the consequences in mind when you are faced with temptation?

THINK ABOUT IT:
There is always more at stake than we think. If you're young, you have a lot of future at stake. If you are old, you have a lot of legacy at stake. If you are in between, you have both a future and a legacy at stake. When you are tempted, what is on the line? WHAT WILL YOU DO?When faced with temptation this week, commit to pause and say the following, "Temptation, you're not going to steal my future. You're not going to steal my family. You're not going to steal my faith."
CHANGING YOUR MIND:
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. Romans 6:14

Deo Valente, D.V.

At church today (Plum Creek Community Church) Pastor Doug challenged us yet again from the book of James about looking at our future and planning with God in mind. How often do we plan without Him? For me, it is too often. He used the example of a construction crew building something with the architects plans.

Do we do that? Do we try to build things without THE GREAT ARCHITECT? God has a plan drawn out for our lives and we need to look at it. There it is, right in front of us...The Word, the Bible. Wow! How exciting!!

This week, let's integrate God into our lives and our plans. As most of you know by now, Darrin did not receive good news in Rochester at the Mayo clinic. Essentially, there was much more cancer than they anticipated and informed Darrin and Kim that it was too risky to try to perform the surgery. They are seeking a 3rd opinion here in Colorado.

Yesterday, Darrin's oldest daughter (20), Katie had a Colonoscapy performed and the results strongly indicated (90%) that it is Cancer. As you can imagine, this has rocked their worlds in a way that is hard to even fathom.

Regardless of what the Doctors say and regardless of what the prognosis is; we, as followers of Christ believe anything is possible through Him. Both Doug and I spoke to Darrin this morning and they are under an unbelievable amount of stress. He has not asked for anything except for prayer. With that being said, I think we need to be ready to do whatever is needed for the Clock family. Darrin will likely be joining us next week at JourneyMEN meeting and we need to be ready to encourage him and pray for him and his entire family.

He wanted me to make sure everyone is in the loop and aware of what is happening.

-charles

Way to go, Pat!

Pat Janssen just stopped by the office this morning to let me know that he passed his Series 7 Exam this morning! Thursday will conclude the 'Series'.

Direction Determines Destination. But what is it that influences direction? What is it that starts us on our course, either for the places we want to go or the destinations we'd rather avoid? If we could determine what this is, then we could change our course upstream and save ourselves a lot of time, money, and heartache. Discover what this is and how you leverage it to reach the destinations God desires for you.

1. Read Deuteronomy 7:12. Why did God command the Israelites to pay attention? How do the things that grab your attention influence the direction you take in life?
2. Read Psalm 119:35-37. What are the worthless things that we need to turn our eyes and our attention away from? What are the things that capture your attention that will only lead you down paths you don't want to go?
3. Read Proverbs 4:25-27. In what situations are you the most tempted to swerve to the left or the right? How can you be proactive and keep you eyes straight ahead? How can you avoid the temptation to turn your attention away from the things that will draw you off course?
4. Read Matthew 6:22. What are the things that you need to focus on? What are the things that by turning your eyes to them, by paying attention to them, your life will be full of light?
5. Read Hebrews 2:1. When have you turned your eyes away from what was important and found yourself drifting away? How can we keep focused on the things that will keep us on the right paths? How can we keep from drifting?

THINK ABOUT IT

What has captured your attention that could prove harmful down the road? What would your friend, roommate, or family say is taking up too much of your focus? WHAT WILL YOU DO?

What do you need to give more attention? What are the things you need to focus on? What will you do this week to begin to pay more attention to them?

CHANGING YOUR MIND

Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Proverbs 4:25Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27

Crazy few days

Good morning,

What a whirl-wind the past few days. I have been traveling for the last 6 days and am thrilled to be back home. Farah and I were in Annandale, MN yesterday to attend Gary Partridges final service at the the Church he has been serving at for the past 15 years! It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of the day's tribute. What a fantastic day!

For those who do not know, Gary will be joining us here in Colorado in the next month or so at Plum Creek Community Church as a Pastor and also as a JounreyMEN. I am so excited to have Gary because he is very well versed in scripture and is excellent at articulating and communicating the Word in a way that is practical and applicable. The other thing I like about Gary is his sense of humor. He is going to make a great fit with our church, group and community. I just wanted to be among the first to say, "Welcome to the team"to Gary! -co

Newest JourneyMAN

Many of us met Darrin Clock yesterday for the first time. Darrin has gone through a lot since his diagnosis a year ago May. It is hard to hear about all that Darrin (and his family) has had to go through physically, emotional and spiritually. With that being said, I am also inspired by him. He demonstrated a tremendous amount of courage and faith yesterday...opening himself and his situation to the church community and to the men of Plum Creek.

I am proud to call Darrin a fellow JourneyMAN. I am calling upon this group to pray for Darrin this week as he travels to Rochester, New York to see if they can perform surgery. Anything is possible through Him and when we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Please see the what Christian Pruett wrote in his email to me (us) yesterday...

..................

Charles: It was great to have the chance to meet and pray with Darrin today. I have not met many people who have gone through as much as he has, and I continue to pray that God will watch over him and his family. As he mentioned to us, he is looking for people to "lift his arms" much like Aaron and Hur did for Moses while the Israelites fought Amalek. He will be traveling next week to go to the Mayo clinic, and he will need as much uplifting as possible. In that same vein, I would like to propose to the men of our church (and everyone else who is willing to hear) that while he travels and has tests done on Tuesday, we devote the day to prayer and fasting for him. As Christians, while we pray for people, we are also called to fast (Matthew 6:16). The Bible is clear about the times when fasting are important. Moses fasted for 40 days on the mountain. The Ninevites fasted after Jonah warned them of their impending destruction. Jesus fasted for 40 days before he began his ministry. When the Apostles came across a boy in Mark 9 who had a spirit that caused epileptic symptoms, Jesus said that, "This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting." With Darrin's current medical conditions, I know that he is unable to do much at all physically. In his stead, and in dutiful obedience to our God, I want to call upon us who are capable to fast all day on Tuesday for his sake. If some of us cannot fast from food for medical reasons, I would ask that they fast from some activity or convenience. His life is worth far more than anything we could give up for the day. I pray that God will work a miracle in his life.-- Christian Pruett

Looking Ahead...

Great work today! Awesome feedback and great challenges for all of us.

We looked closely at Proverbs 27:12; The prudent (smart) see danger and take refuge, but the simple (not-smart) keep going and suffer.

Remembering that the Direction Determines Destination, it is important that we are on the lookout for trouble (danger/evil). Furthermore, when we see it we need to take action. We discussed the four dynamics that go into this...

ACTION - Do something about it!

SACRIFICE/PAIN - Perhaps giving up something

EMBARRASSMENT - Sometimes we look foolish in the eyes of others when we make a decision now for something better down the road or in the grand scheme of things.

RELIEF - Being able to look back and see the moment you made a change to better your life and have a sigh of relief.

Apply the Principle of The Path to these 4 areas...

Health

Finances

Relationships

Faith

Look forward to some excellent discussion about this and thanks again for the great feedback!

-co

Looking Ahead - Topic for tomorrow

JourneyMEN “LOOKING AHEAD”

The Principle of the Path: Direction Determines Destination

INTRODUCTION:
We've all ended up places we never meant to be--where life was complicated and there were seemingly no good options. And looking back we saw the warning signs. We just chose to ignore them. But it doesn't have to be that way. By looking back at an old wisdom saying we'll learn to look ahead and avoid the danger the lies in wait for us down the road.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1.) What are the reasons that people avoid warning signs? Why is it that we sometimes walk right into trouble?
2.) Read Proverbs 27:12. When have you seen someone look ahead and take the steps necessary to avoid impending danger? When have you seen someone walk right into trouble?
3.) Taking refuge and responding to danger before it happens involves action. What are some things that you might have to do in order to avoid danger?
4.) Taking refuge often involves sacrifice. What are some things you might have to sacrifice in the short term in order to steer away from complicated situations up ahead?
5.) Responding to danger before it happens can often be embarrassing because others won't understand your actions. What is a situation in which it might be embarrassing to take steps to avoid potential trouble?
6.) The payoff for doing something, for sacrificing, and for facing potential embarrassment, is the feeling of relief once the potential danger has been diffused. When have you felt the relief that comes when you look ahead and do what is necessary to avoid danger?

THINK ABOUT IT:
Where in your life do you presently see danger ahead?
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
What will you do this week to avoid the impending danger?
CHANGING YOUR MIND:
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. Proverbs 27:12

Summertime!

Hey guys,

Can you believe it is July 5th?? As my Dad always said, "we are on the backside of the year now". Wow - That is hard to believe. With the summer months, it can become chaotic and busy with activities, travel and long days. This is a great time of year to review what has happened, what has been accomplished and furthermore, evaluate what needs to be done moving forward for the 2nd half of 2007.

Remember those New Years resolutions? Uh oh! The day after a fun, food and drink filled 4th of July I think of those health resolutions :)

2 things to consider here...

#1 - If you have accomplished some of your goals - congratulations! Take a moment to celebrate the victory! One on particular that I have witnessed is Joe Davis, my friend, neighbor and fellow JourneyMan. He made a DECISION on New Years Eve to get fit. Not only did he have some goals in mind - HE CHANGED HIS PATH. Joe has lost 60 LBS (so far)!!! He looks great and feels awesome too. Janet, his wife looks incredible too. Way to go, Joe and Janet!

#2 - If you have fallen short on a goal(s) - don't give up!! It is okay if you recognize it now and CHANGE the DIRECTION. Remember, DIRECTION DETERMINES DESTINATION!
Whether it is health, financial or relationships, apply the principle of the path.

We have 6 months left in 2007. Is that not enough time?? Look what Joe Davis accomplished in 6 months...

See you guys next Thursday.

charles

Choosing the Path

Hey fellas,

Great discussion the other morning! Just wanted to check in and see how things were going with regard to what we were all challenged with last week. How is it going? Some of the things we talked about ranged from relationships with our wives to health decisions to finances.

Remember, DIRECTION DETERMINES DESTINATION. Are you headed in the right direction?

Have a great day!

co

The Principle of the Path

JourneyMEN – June 21, 2007

THE PATH PRINCIPLE

INTRODUCTION
Think about the last time you were traveling and got lost. You had your destination in mind. You had every intention of getting there. But you took the wrong path, and you didn't end up where you wanted to be. A disconnect often occurs between the path you choose and where you want to end up. This is the principle of the path and we'll discover how it impacts every area of your life.

DIRECTION NOT INTENTION determines DESTINATION

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1.) Talk about a time when you were lost. How did you get lost? How did you find your bearings?

2.) Read Proverbs 7:6-27. When have you watched someone else go down a predictable path? What were the choices that they made? What were the outcomes that they experienced?

3.) The principle of the path teaches that direction determines destination. What are some of the paths that you have taken in life? Where did they lead you?

4.) What is your desired destination when it comes to your career, finances, marriage, kids, or relationships?

5.) What path are you on now when it comes to your career, finances, kids, or relationships? Where do you see it headed? How is it different than your desired destination?

6.) What path should you pursue so that you will arrive at your desired destination in one of the areas you've mentioned?

THINK ABOUT IT

Why do we tend to think that we are the exception to the path principle? Why do we see our choices as individual events, instead of seeing them as a path to a destination?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Wrong paths have an emotional appeal that cause us to trade the immediate for the ultimate. If we choose immediate gratification, then we forfeit where we eventually want to be. What is one thing you will do this week to place yourself on the path to what you ultimately want?

CHANGING YOUR MIND

Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Proverbs 7:25

Meeting this Thursday

Hey guys,

We are meting at The Grange this Thursday at 6:30 am. So much is packed into those 3 verses. I was reading a post that my wife put on our blog this week expressing a trial she has been going through and her daily mental resolution and I would like to share it with you.

It is titled, "Confessions of a Stay at Home Mom"

So... this morning after feeding Ainsley at 5:00 (for the first time all night) I crawled back into bed. Minimunch didn't go back to sleep, although she was happily squawking in her crib for about an hour. I am a pretty light sleeper, so I didn't really fall back asleep. By about 6:00am, she was letting out some bored cries. So I got her up, changed her diaper again, and took her downstairs. She was back asleep by 6:15... about the time Mike was leaving for his Bible Study. How great is that that my husband wakes up super early to study God's word? Anyway, the garage door woke up Aubrey. She was also happily awake, so I let her be until 7:00am hoping she too would fall back asleep. She didn't. So I got her up, and made her breakfast. By this time Ainsley was awake and wanting to eat... and here it is... I actually thought to myself I hate my life! How ridiculous is that! I have an amazing husband who puts his family first. I have two terrific daughters who fill my heart each and every day. I live everyday with the knowledge that I am free from my sins through Christ's blameless death on the cross. Isn't that a relief? I have amazing people to support me and walk life with me. And here I was thinking my life was horrible because I had to wake up at 5am! I immediately prayed for a better perspective. Sheesh. The funny part is, there is nothing I would rather do with my life. Whenever I have been asked the question "if you could do anything with your life, and pay wasn't a factor, what would you choose?" I've always said a wife and a mother. Well, at one point it was to follow the migration of whales, but that was a long time ago. So there you have it. The selfish confession of a stay at home mom... who by the way very much loves her life!

Sometimes it just requires us to sit back at get a little perspective on our situation. Though I know this is a post from a girl on the JourneyMEN site, I hope you will forgive me and be able to relate your own life to a stay at home mom's. I'm proud of my wife!

Application of Faith

Hey guys,

At Plum Creek Community Church this weekend, Pastor Doug delivered a message on "Applied Faith". In other words, taking what we learn on Sundays (and on Thursdays) and applying it to our everyday lives. It inspired me to really dive into the book of James a little deeper.

Something that struck me was how the words we speak can be so important and perhaps even dangerous. James 1:19-20 My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to LISTEN, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Your anger can never make things right in God's sight.

This week I am going to focus my words on encouragement and be slower to 'React' and more careful to "Respond'. I am also going to be try to be more mindful and aware of the actual words I speak as it reflects who I am and what I stand for.

Have an awesome week!

co

Daily Bread!

This morning I had the opportunity to get together with a few guys and dig into the Word of God...and it was awesome!  We  prayed together and decided to begin where Pastor Doug is going to be teaching over the next several weeks.  Here is what we talked about;

We began a study of the book of James. The book of James may be the earliest of the New Testament letters, written about A.D. 48. This letter, written by the brother of Jesus and one of the leaders of the church in Jerusalem, was addressed to Christians everywhere. The seven books of the New Testament from James through Jude are called the general letters because they are addressed to Christians in general and not to a special church.

James wrote this letter to teach Christians the practice of Christianity. He insists that if we have real faith, we will show it by acting like Christians. He gives practical advice on things like anger and quarreling, showing favoritism, controlling the tongue, boasting patience and prayer.

Today, we looked at the first several verses in chapter 1, specifically verse 5; If anyone should lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

We discussed that we should seek wisdom for a variety of things;

What to say and how to say it

Making Decisions

Listening and Understanding People and their Needs

Listening to God and taking His lead

Great stuff today guys! Again, I apologize for any miscommunication. I told many of you that we were NOT having it today and neglected to tell others. Please stay tuned for next weeks JourneyMen's meeting as there may be some changes. We were short staffed at the bank, I had a loan closing that could have gone better, and to top it all off, I had to fire one of my tellers.

In all honesty, I tried to live the day with James 1:2 in mind, but it wasn't easy. As I was driving home, both frustrated that I couldn't get my teller to perform to standards, hoping that I let her go with as much grace and dignity as possible, and wanting to still let my light shine to my other employees, I remembered what Glenn said on April 19th, and proceeded to thank God for the rough day too.

I hope you find encouragement in your tough days, because even the "bad" days are days that the Lord has made. We need to rejoice and be glad in them as well. Thanks again for the reminder, Glenn.

Invest in Relationships

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to throw out a couple of thoughts before the weekend. We as dad's, husbands, employees, employers, nieghbors and Christians are in the 'relationship business'. In order to establish, develop and maintain healthy relationships it takes an investment of time.

I say invest and not spend - because to invest means gain. To spend means lose. Truly, healthy relationships are important because we gain respect and this gives us influence. When we have influence, we can lead effectively. We want to successfully lead our families, our businesses and most importantly, we want to be able to lead people into relationship with the Lord. Invest yourslef, time and energy into some relationships!

Have an awesome weekend!

charles

Let us Shine!

Great input today guys! We're much more concerned with who, what, and where to stop and consider the why. But at some point this question rises to the forefront, often due to discontentment with the rut of later life. So why are we here? As we look for the answer to the question of purpose, we'll look to Jesus to shed some light on the matter.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Was there a point in your life where you wrestled with your purpose? Are you wrestling with your purpose right now?

Read Matthew 5:14-16. A city located on a hill is in a very strategic location. A light in a house is strategically located to provide the maximum amount of light. How did God place strategic people in your life who were a light to you?

1.) What is God's purpose for you where you are now? How has God strategically placed you to be a light to others?

2.) How are you shining your light for others to see?

3.) What are the consequences when we hide our light?
How can you live in such a way as to draw attention to your heavenly Father?

THINK ABOUT IT: If someone were to interview your neighbors or coworkers, what would they say about you? Do they know you are a Christian? Do they know you are a Christian by your actions? WHAT WILL YOU DO? What is something specific you can do this week that will draw the attention of those around you to your heavenly Father?

CHANGING YOUR MIND: In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Meeting Thursday, 6:30-7:30 am - The Grange

See you guys on Thursday morning at The Grange. When you post - keep this in mind and also understand the power of regular posts. There may be someone that NEEDS to read (hear) your thoughts and it is very conceivable that this can be a terrific vehicle to lead other men to relationship with each other and Christ.

Final note, this is going to be a great way for other men to get involved with our group who don't even live here. I have had several guys ask that they be added to my distribution list so they can keep up with our material. What a great way for us to broaden our reach! Keep this in mind as well - another reason I need you guys to post regularly.

Have an awesome day and I look forward to stimulating and encouraging conversation - for the glory of Him.

Have an awesome day!

co

Ramp it up!

I have the distinct honor and pleasure of entering the initial post for the blog of the JourneyMEN of Castle Rock. It helps that I am actually creating the blog of course. I look forward to this being a place where the men can connect to each other while staying in touch with the direction of the group.

Mike
