Discussion Questions - Week of Jan 27

1) This week Doug talked about the "NPS Score" that businesses use to determine their clientele's passion and loyalty. Doug then asked us to think about this question based on your own personal relationship with God. "Would you recommend God to a friend?"
Do you? Why?

2) Go back and read Gen 3:7-12:
At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they strung fig leaves together around their hips to cover themselves. 8 Toward evening they heard the Lord God walking about in the garden, so they hid themselves among the trees. 9 The Lord God called to Adam, "Where are you?" 10 He replied, "I heard you, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked." 11 "Who told you that you were naked?" the Lord God asked. "Have you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?" 12 "Yes," Adam admitted, "but it was the woman you gave me who brought me the fruit, and I ate it."
The consequences of sin are real. Can you see evidenced in this passage the consequences of broken connectedness to God, ourselves & each other? Have you seen similar consequences your own life as well?

3) Of the three areas that we discussed this weekend; connecting to God, connecting to who I am in Christ & connecting to others, which is the biggest challenge for you? Why do you think this is the case?

4) What steps do you need to take to be proactive in re-connecting in these areas?

5) We have spent the last 4 weeks looking at what it takes to have an E.P.I.C. Faith. The definition of Epic is, "Extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope." The topics for each week were; Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich & Connected. As you look back over the series we have just completed what stands out in your mind the most? Would you describe your personal relationship with God as EPIC? What are some practical things that you can do in your life to continue moving in the direction of an EPIC Faith.

6) As a group in preparation for our new series that starts next week. Read Psalm 23.

Update on the Clocks

Hey guys,

I received this from the Kim Clock this morning. I am hoping you all can make the Spaghetti dinner on Friday. It is from 4-8. We are going to go from 4-5 since Cole has a B-ball game and we have another engagement after the game.

We still need some stuff to donate for the silent auction. Anything will help - PlayStation's, gift certificates, etc.

Please keep praying!

--------------
Good morning,I'm not sure when I wrote you last, so I'll do a quick update. On Dec 14th D had a tumor removed from his right lung ( about a golf ball size). It was sent away for drug resistance testing. There are three chemo drugs that showed a 20 o/o chance of effecting the cancer. Two of these drugs were used the first time D was in chemo and if you remember made him deathly sick, Dr. Parra said he would cut the dosage and mix it with the third drug. Darrin's cancer grew through the first chemo drugs, but his cancer is changing, trying to stay alive. D's chemo treatment is a 3 week treatment. Week one mon-fri, week two monday, week 3 monday, week 4 rest. There will be only 2 treatments which takes us to March, there will be a PET scan then to see if the chemo is effective, D's body is not nearly as strong as it was in the beginning so please pray. Also D has not been back to work since his Dec surg, he is on oxygen through the night and at times throughout the day. We are still believing for a miracle. Short term disability has now started and that will be for three months then long term disability, Social security stuff is in the works but usually takes 5 months to get that going, they are trying to rush it since D has been labeled terminal. as weird as it may sound the financial does not scare us, God has proven that He will take care of us, and for all of you how have been His hands, feet and mouth we thank you. I'll keep you updated. As for Katee, she started # 11 yesterday (21rst) and will have chemo today and wed, She has chemo monday and tues and those nights she is also hooked to an IV pump that pumps chemo through the night, on Wed she will have chemo but no night pump. She is so thankful she is almost done. We all are. As for Ami and I we are trying to help where we can but find ourselves lost in what to do most of the time. The senior center is again including us in their spaghetti feed, this friday, they are keeping all the money from the food but there will be a silent auction with alot of wonderful things people have donated. The spaghetti dinner is at the event center here in castle rock ( in one of the side buildings, we just look for the cars and lights) I'll write more when I have more.

DIscussion questions for week of Jan 20

Hey guys,

Below are some questions to discuss when you get together with your JourneyMEN group this week. Please let me know when and where your group is meeting so we can inform and connect new guys with your group...

Have an awesome week!

------------------

1. ) What were your first thoughts when Doug said that an “EPIC Faith” needs to be "image-rich"?

2.) What are your thoughts about the A.W. Tozer quote: “The most important fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be.”?

3.) John 1:14 “So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.”

4.) What are your thoughts about the “Word becoming flesh”? Why is it so important for us to study the life of Jesus and the images that were part of His life and His teachings?

5.) Of the 7 images that Doug talked about this weekend which one sticks out in your mind & heart the most?

6.) What other images from Jesus’ life are significant to you?

7.) Doug finished his message by challenging us to think of Monday as “Game Day”. What do you think about this challenge?

8.) Finally, Doug also asked us to evaluate what image others are seeing in our lives. Are you clearly presenting the Lord by the way you live your life? What steps can you take to do this more effectively?

JourneyMEN - Small Groups!

Good afternoon!

I have talked to many of you personally throughout the day and I am totally excited and enthused about our new format!

To summarize;

We are going to form small groups to accommodate more schedules and encourage each group to meet weekly. We will provide the weekly discussion questions on Sunday right here on the JourneyMEN Blog. The discussion and supporting scripture will compliment the lesson/message from the Sunday before at church.

We will have a "All Hands JourneyMEN" event once per quarter. More information to come on this.

Currently, it is looking like we have 4-5 groups forming. Here is what we are looking like so far;

Early Morning (6:30)- Castle Rock Leader: Mike Kelly mvkelly007@comcast.net
Mid Morning- Castle Rock
Lunch - Castle Rock
Lunch - South Denver

Possibly Castle Pines North

Would like more leaders/organizers in/at;

E.P.I.C. - Participate

JourneyMEN – January 17, 2008

INTRODUCTION – Series – The E.P.I.C. LifeThis past weekend we were called to be Participatory in our faith.
Matthew 4:19“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus began His public ministry with a simple invitation…“Come, follow me,” Arguably the Disciples who heard this call are the ones that Participated at the highest level! The people whose lives were really impacted and changed by God were the ones that understood the EPIC kind of life.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Why is it important to God that we participate?
Why is it important to the Church and each other that we participate?
In what ways can I Participate in the community and in the church in order for Jesus to accomplish his mission in the world?
As men, why do we sometimes find it hard to take the step to participate? How can we overcome that?
How can participating keep us passionate about our enthusiasm for God?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?Starting this week, how will you get involved? What will your involvement and participation look like in JourneyMEN in 2008?

CHANGING YOUR MIND Matthew 28:18-20
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
